There are so many varieties of baby blankets to choose from out there, it's hard to know what your child will like. It really becomes a case of trial and error - I know we had quite a few stuffies and blankets lying around as I went through the process with my son :).
Our Buddy Blankies was the design I created that meant all his needs in one baby security blanket. I created it to not be too big to drag around - a huge issue when your child starts walking, lol. The Buddy Blankies is approx. 18" square in size. We decided to made one side our of cuddle sating, nice and silky smooth to their little fingers. Bright, patterned flannel makes the other side fun for your child to snuggle with, plus hold up to the wear and tear of being dragged around and loved.
The next unique items we added were our Buddy ears. I noticed with my daughter how she loved to rub the ears of her stuffed rabbit, lined with satin. So we created a pair of bunny ears just for that, made from the same flannel and lined with cuddle sating. Children love to rub the satin between those little fingers as they drift off to sleep. Teething is also a big thing to deal with, which led us to our knotted Buddy ears. Two pieces of the flannel knotted tightly for tiny gums to chew on while those little chompers come in. The knots also make it easy for them to grasp onto their blankets and drag them about.
